Every trip to Venice begins with Canale Grande or Grand Canal.

This reverse S shaped Canal swirling through the heart of Venice is a busy thoroughfare for all sorts of water conveyances.  It is lined with Palazzo from a mixture of architectural styles - the Venetian-Byzantine style, Venetian Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassic.

 

One of the great pleasures in life is getting lost in Venice.

Must do in Venice - a special Gondola ride.

One of the most special things we experienced in Venice was the Gondola ride through the small canals.  They are sleek beautiful boats and so very quiet.

Inside Le Fenice Opera House to see Madame Butterfly.

We got a peek behind the Palazzo doors. The Venetians live very opulent lives. Lots of Murano chandeliers and frescoed ceilings.

St. Mark's Square, The Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Check, check, check.
